Course Overview

All enrolments now will be for exams in Summer 2024 and beyond.

You’ll be required to complete two standard A-level Ancient History written exams:

  • Paper 1: 2 hours 30 minutes, 50% of A-level, 98 marks
  • Paper 2: 2 hours 30 minutes, 50% of A-level, 98 marks

These exams contain a mixture of short and long answer questions and extended response questions.

Course Content

This unit guides you through ancient Greece. Paying particular attention to the politics and culture of Sparta. In terms of Ancient History, Spartan culture is fascinating! We look at the social and political structure of Sparta and most interestingly, it’s well-renowned military. Still regarded to this day as one of the finest the World has seen.
In this section we take a deep dive in to the Romans. Specifically the Julio-Claudian Emperors of the times 31BC through to AD68. This includes Augustus, Tiberius, Gaius, Claudius and Nero. We then take a look at the late republic up until it’s ultimate demise.

Entry Requirements

A GCSE or equivalent in History is recommended for this course.

Your personal tutor will be highly experienced in their subject area and qualified to teach.
You will need to pay separately for your final examinations. Additional texts may also need to be purchased to supplement your learning on the course.
That’s fine, this course can be studied anywhere and is completed by submitting Tutor marked assignments (TMAs).
