Course Content

Looking at how Spanish-speaking countries have been shaped socially and culturally, this module will further your ability to understand and communicate the values, social issues, and trends of Hispanic society. You’ll explore the technological and social changes over time and understand how immigration has influenced the multicultural nature of Hispanic society, through the study of authentic spoken and written sources in Spanish.
Delving into the artistic culture of the Hispanic world, you’ll look at the representation of Spanish regional identity in art, including the cultural heritage of past civilisations and the idols that influence the Spanish artist scene today. From there, you’ll explore the political landscape of Spanish-speaking countries, looking at monarchies and dictatorships, as well as the popular movements that influence today’s youth and their political engagement. You’ll develop the ability to use language spontaneously to initiate conversations, ask and answer questions, and express your thoughts and viewpoints on Spanish political and artistic culture in speech and writing.
At this stage, you’ll focus on enhancing your existing knowledge, developed at GCSE level, of the grammatical systems and structures of the Spanish language. You’ll practice actively using the appropriate grammar relevant to several written and spoken scenarios. For example, ensuring you can properly identify and use gender nouns in both the singular and plural forms, alongside the correct use of adjectives, adverbs, verbs, constructions, and more! By the end of the module, you’ll be able to confidently and precisely translate passages from Spanish into English and from English into Spanish.
In this module, you’ll carry out independent research on a text and film of your choice. You can select your study focus from a variety of authentic sources, including texts by Federico García Lorca and Gabriel García Márquez (author of One Hundred Years of Solitude). The list of films you can study include El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan’s Labyrinth), and the Spanish comedy, Volver, starring Penélope Cruz. Reading and responding to literary texts and inferring meaning from complex visual materials, your study of Spanish works will be rich and entertaining as you focus on your personal area of interest.

They were quick and efficient with great customer service. The online resources and tools are best I’ve come across as, an educational professional within FE. I would recommend anyone who is wanting to up skill their career professional development. The pricing isn’t too expensive either for the amount of time for the course.
