- Section A: One question on two unseen 21st-century texts.
- Section B: One question on two unseen texts from different historical periods.

Paper 2: Child Language (1h 15m, 45 marks, 20%)
- One question on unseen spoken or written data, requiring an extended response.

Paper 3: Investigating Language (1h 45m, 45 marks, 25%)
- Section A: One question on unseen data related to the student’s researched subtopic.
- Section B: One evaluative question linking their research with additional data.
NEA Coursework (Non-Examined Assessment)
- Total: 50 marks, 20% of the A-level.
- Word Count: 2,500–3,000 words.
- Assessment: Internally marked, externally moderated.
Assignments:
- Original Writing (1,500–2,000 words, 30 marks) – Two pieces from the same genre, differentiated by function/audience.
- Commentary (1,000 words, 20 marks) – Reflecting on the original writing and linking to research.
